All Hallow's Eve at Home

All Hallow's Eve at Home

Happy Halloween! Live from home where I am currently working. If you like me has given up on the idea of going out for Halloween this year FEAR not. There’s plenty to do to keep you entertained indoors.

Here are some things I’ll be doing this Halloween

Eating festive foods.

Although we cannot go outside and enjoy due to the second wave of the pandemic hitting us. I will make the most of my time at home. Halloween is on a saturday night for the first time in a long time which is so disappointing for many of us who work during the week and get weekends off. The first thing I did to make up for the fact that my saturday night will not be as lit as I hoped was to go food shopping. That’s right. I have loaded up with plenty of treats so I can snack throughout the day. Haribo sweets, chocolates, bags of kettle chips. I loaded up on junk that I usually enjoy every now and again. For many this is reminiscent of days spend trick or treating with family or friends. Secondly, I loaded up on alcohol. I have beers, wine and soju at home. All I need for an enjoyable Halloween night in. Furthermore, I try to eat festive foods to get in the mood. I’ve already eaten my fill of pumpkin risotto this year and if you are stuck on some autumn food ideas check out this blog post I wrote last year, here you can find some interesting and festive food ideas from around the globe.

Spooky films and TV shows

While I’m not a fan of horror films I do love spooky and or Halloween related TV and films. Films such as Hocus Pocus, Twitches and the Craft and TV shows such as Are you afraid of the Dark, and Goosebumps were my jam when I was a kid. Recently, I have gotten into the Sabrina the Teenage witch remake on netflix. It is much darker than the original series with Melissa Joan Hart but I can still go to bed at night without getting nightmares.

Other remakes that are popular this year are: a remake of the Craft (though I’m not sure how I feel about that) and also a remake of Roald Dahl’s Witches. Both I have yet to see, so I do not have an opinion of them as of yet. If you can handle something a little more horror why not watch the Haunting of Bly Manor on netflix or horror classics like Nightmare on Elm street and IT.

Zoom Halloween Parties

This year why not hop on to Zoom with a few friends and have a distanced Halloween party. You can still get dressed up, grab a couple of drinks and do a distanced viewing of a horror film and watch your friends poop their pants from a far, or you can chill with a couple of cocktails or even do a spooky trivia night. Don’t let the global pandemic get in the way of you spending time with friends and enjoying this festive spooky season. I already had one spooky trivia night with colleagues and a drinks session with friends.

Bonus : Make up ideas

This year my go-to makeup guru Jess suggests going old school by cracking out the face paint from your local dress up shop and painting your face for a quick halloween costume. (You can keep your pjs on this year, hurrah!) Here is her make up look as an evil pumpkin. This is perfect for any Zoom halloween engagements you make have tonight. Jess created the look using orange, black and white face paints.

If you are too lazy to go all out this year but still want to look cute why not follow the other side of Jess’s make up look and go for a themed make up. Jess uses fenty beauty foundation in shade 100 as a base using the same shade in the concealer to hide any blemishes. (I’d do the same using my shade, 430) followed by a bright mattes palette from beauty bay for the pop of orange eyeshadow. Nyx cosemetics eyeliner in white and black, and also the morphe brow pomade in almond. Jess finishes up this look with Beauty Bakerie powder in shade rice.
