In Praise of Obscurity
There are no set of instructions as to how to lead a live that is largely unaffected by the external. If you yourself have been told there is only one way to live then how do you learn to go against the tide? We must go against what we have been taught and try to live out our days as our best possible self.
Nobody really needs self validation in the form of the media yet somehow we as a species have developed to the point where if you are not known to at least 1000 people you are considered not even human. Does it even matter if nobody in the world apart from your own family knows your name? Is your life of any more worth than somebody else’s if you have 100K subscribers to your YouTube channel and you are labelled an influencer? A majority of us will live out the rest of our lives in relative obscurity and actually this post is in praise of living an obscure life.
None too many can criticise your thoughts and opinions if you are living as your most authentic self. If you march to the beat of your own drum there are less naysayers and people who want to see you fail. Most people fail to see you at all. Obscurity is now somewhat an art form in itself. Nobody sees you and really that maybe a good thing. Imagine your life led without the opinions of others, of the mass media and of haters. We can choose to go against the tide largely unnoticed. Things are easier when you give in to obscurity and accept that perhaps nobody will know your name or true self and maybe it’s okay. You can be yourself, love who you choose and freely express your opinions without backlash.
Living quietly shouldn’t be considered a sin. Life is only what others label it to be so how about you try to label your own life? Pursue things which make you and only you happy as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else, we should listen to our inner voices alone and chase those dreams that are deep inside us. Oh and we should create, however we know how. Create our own lives and our own stories. Create our own art and create ourselves.
